At the end of the fourth quarter of 2005/06, reserve money reached 21.2 billion birr, indicating a quarterly decline of 6.9 percent solely as a result of 18.7 percent drop in deposits of commercial banks at the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) which offset an increase of 3.4 percent in currency in circulation.
